Background
In 2024, TikTok Shop acquired 75% of Tokopedia.
In 2024, TikTok Shop acquired a majority stake of 75% in Tokopedia, leading to a strategic merger between online retail and social media.
This merger facilitated TikTok Shop in expanding its user base by integrating with Tokopedia's established user community. Concurrently, Tokopedia, in turn, could leverage TikTok's global platform. This association fostered mutual growth and offered a seamless digital experience to users across both platforms.
Enabling value from Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Integration
Following the acquisition, a series of initiatives will be launched related to payment, bonuses, advertising, and recommendations across both Tokopedia and TikTok Shop.
For these initiatives to be effective, an explicit link is required between the users' accounts on both platforms. This will allow Tokopedia to ascertain which TikTok account belongs to a specific user accessing its platform, and vice versa.

To bridge the account connection between Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, we built the Tokopedia Login Kit. It allows users to use their current Tokopedia login session or create a new one to link their TikTok Shop and Tokopedia account.
Design Process
Understanding client needs
The design process starts by understanding client needs. The Tokopedia Login Kit will be utilized for buyer account linking, seller account linking, and seller onboarding.
The client, TikTok Shop, requires the Tokopedia Login Kit to acquire user login sessions and user information, and to gain user authorization to utilize Tokopedia user data within TikTok Shop.
Leveraging Existing Login Flow for Seamless Integration
To minimize the learning curve for our users, we are utilizing the existing Tokopedia login pattern as much as possible. However, we are also constrained by a short development timeline for the integration of Tokopedia and TikTok Shop.
Optimizing Login Flow for Scalability
I made necessary adjustments to the Tokopedia login kit because it was previously only used in a Tokopedia login environment. These adjustments were made to ensure the login kit could be used in any environment. The adjustments included changing the header copy, making the login method configurable, updating the authorization page, and implementing error handling to cater to specific cases from external entry points.
The login kit should also be scalable enough to handle redirection to different pages based on the entry point and the user type, whether they are a buyer or a seller.

The Tokopedia Login Kit enables the access of Tokopedia's login process, verification, and data authorization flow from external platforms. This includes compatibility with Android and iOS native environments, and webviews, creating a more streamlined user experience.

Versatile Login Kit for Diverse User Scenarios and All User Types
The Tokopedia Login Kit is a versatile tool that can be tailored to various use cases by adjusting redirections to meet specific client needs. For instance, during the integration with TikTok Shop, the login kit was adapted to differentiate between user types - accommodating both buyer and seller accounts.
Additionally, the kit empowers users with control over their data. Users can authorize external clients to access their Tokopedia data, and these clients can specify which information they require from the user's Tokopedia account.

We also introduce Login with TikTok Shop
After user has linked their Tokopedia and TikTok Shop account, we provide them a feature to Login with TikTok in Tokopedia. This feature enables user to use their login session from TikTok to be able to login to Tokopedia to reduce friction in login. This login method reduce the need of verification, hence makes login faster for user.

Making data authorization consistent across TikTok's envinronment
We have also introduced the feature that allows users to log into Tokopedia using their TikTok credentials. To utilize this feature, users simply need to complete the account linking process between Tokopedia and TikTok Shop.

The Tokopedia Login Kit facilitates account binding between TTS and Tokopedia, with a notable success rate of 70% for Tokopedia as of July 12th, 2024. It also allows faster logins to Tokopedia using Shop credentials without OTP verifications. Currently, a version for sellers is in development, enabling them to link and manage their TTS and Tokopedia shop accounts from one platform, and to expedite shop onboarding on the TTS Seller platform using Tokopedia shop data.
